DDSB record first win of 2010 season.

Doncaster Danum Scout Band yesterday won their first competition this season. Taking part in the Brass Explosion contest in Stafford, Doncaster beat off strong opposition from Stafford Lancers, Cosely Comets, Halifax BB/GB and Stafford Brigades. Five caption awards were picked up in the process and DDSB are now looking to the future with their n…ext contest being Midland Impact at Coventry in two weeks time.

DDSB secure funding for new Percussion Equipment

Doncaster Danum Scout Band have successfully gained funding for new marching bells and pit equipment through the DMBC Youth Bank scheme. The Marching Bells are a huge asset for the band, which is constantly growing, and will help to teach our members the skills required to compete at the highest level.

Well done to those people involved in the grant application!

Doncaster Danum Scout Band’s training camp at Walesby was a resounding success with the band completing the goals set for the weekend and more besides. We now look ahead to St George’s Day on the 25th of the month, before setting our sights firmly on our 2010 BYBA Programme, Suite XVI. As a result of this, practices will return to Ready Steady Store as of this evening.

DDSB member wins Young Musician of the Year!

Doncaster Danum Scout Band attended the BYBA Individuals and Ensembles event at Trinity School in Nottingham. After 6 individual performances across the brass, woodwind and percussion section, and a mallets ensemble, 2 DDSB members were shortlisted for the coveted “Young Musician of the Year”. Snare Drummer Charlie and Clarinet player Sam were pitted against musicians from Staffordshire Knights and Liberty.

After a very tense play-off, which had amazing performances from all 4 finalists, Sam was crowned 2009 Young Musician of the Year, this opens the door to a world of opportunity for him, and the band would like to congratulate Sam for his achievement. Sam played ‘Romance’ by Sir Edward German.

Doncaster Danum Scout Band is proud to announce its 2010 production:
“Suite 16″ a Celebration of 16 years of Doncaster Danum Scout Band.

Doncaster Danum Scout Band is celebrating 16 years as the Borough Scout Band. To acknowledge this milestone the band is to play a mixture of old and new compositions, celebrating achievements past and looking forward to a bright future.

A fiery Latin opener from the pen of Mike Story, “El Gato Fiero”, is a fast tempo demanding piece of music which invigorates the player and the listener. A change of pace and style with the Stevie Wonder hit “Sir Duke”, this is followed by something new for the band, “Paint It Black” by the Rolling Stones. The percussion section take over with the strange, haunting strains of “WaltznBlack”, the signature tune of the Stranglers, before the rest of the band return for “Mañana” before the big finale of the old DSMB favourite “Live And Let Die”, originally made famous by Paul McCartney and Wings.
